The trend is driven by conflicts, extreme weather, and disrupted trade logistics. According to the FAO's Food Price Index, August's reading reached 133. 3 points – its highest level since late 2022.
Each category on the index saw increases: cereals rose by over two percent, vegetable oils by nearly one and a half percent, sugar by almost 12 percent, meat by three quarters of a percent, and dairy by just under one percent.
